Some foods, like candy, taste good. But large amounts of those foods aren't good for you. How can you know which foods are good for you? Scientists made a food pyramid to help you choose foods that are good for you.

What is a pyramid? A pyramid is like a tall mountain.

Most people who live on a mountain live on the lower part. Some people climb to the top now and then.

When you choose food from the food pyramid, think of it as a mountain. Stay on the lower parts most of the time. Foods on the lower parts are better for you. Don't climb to the top too often.

The food pyramid shows you foods to eat every day. At the bottom of the pyramid are bread, rice, cereal, and pasta. You need to eat the largest amounts of these foods. They give you energy.

Next are fruits and vegetables. Scientists say these foods may help your body fight sickness and stay well.

The milk group and the meat group come next. Foods in the milk group help your teeth and bones stay strong. Foods in the meat group help you build strong muscles.
