Background Bonus
Unit Objectives
These days, it's not just the telephone that is used to get help or communicate vital information in an emergency. Some people use a phone device called PERS--Personal Emergency Response System. A person's telephone is hooked up to an emergency center that automatically sends help when called. The person can also wear a wrist or pendant button that can be pushed to signal for help. These devices are ideal for older or disabled people who live alone. Medical alert bracelets, necklaces, and cards can also provide information to emergency medical technicians.
Students learn to
* identify different kinds of emergencies and accidents and what they can do to help;
* name different kinds of health professionals who can provide help in times of emergencies.
