abyss the deepest, darkest part of the ocean

acid rain rain containing small amounts of acids of sulfur and nitrogen

adaptation a change in a plant or an animal species that helps it survive in its environment

buoyancy a lifting force found in liquids and gases

current a regular movement of water within an ocean

depth sounding a method of measuring the depth of a body of water by dropping a weighted line into the water, then measuring the length of line that went under the surface

desert a habitat on Earth noted especially for its dryness. A desert may be hot or cold.
