Recently, Merv and Mini Mannequin took part in a safety test. The test showed that air bags help protect passengers during a car crash. Later, a reporter interviewed Merv and Mini.
Reporter: Merv and Mini, how do you feel?
Mini: Just fine! Those air bags really cushioned our faces and heads.
Merv: Yes! See this crack above my eye? That's where I hit my head on a steering wheel in a different test. In that crash, there were no air bags.
Reporter: I'm confused. I thought seat belts protected people in a crash.
Mini: They do! But seat belts plus air bags make a more complete protection system.
Merv: That's right! Think about it this way. When a car is traveling 60 miles an hour, the driver is traveling at the same speed.
