Earth spins, or rotates, on an imaginary line called its axis.
It takes Earth 24 hours, or one day, to make one rotation.
When your location, the place where you live on Earth, is facing toward the sun, it is day. When your location is facing away from the sun, it is night.
Earth's rotation causes day and night.

The moon has day and night too. But the moon turns slowly. Days and nights are longer. A place on the moon has two weeks of daylight, then two weeks of night. Earth turns 14 times for each night on the moon.
