Japan is the number one exporter of goods to the United States, but it's not the number one importer of American goods. Which country is? Canada. Canada buys about $90 billion worth of American goods each year--almost double the amount of goods Japan buys.
Goods made in the United States are popular all over the world. The United States also buys natural resources and finished products from many countries. Each year, the United States trades with more than 140 countries, from tiny Caribbean islands, such as Anguilla, to the world's largest country, Russia.
The table below shows how much money the United States made selling goods to various countries, and how much the United States paid to buy goods from those countries. Use the table to answer the questions on page 5.
