2001 DEC 13 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- The antiestrogen compound 6-MCDF, targeted for the treatment of breast cancer, has been selected by the Drug Development Group (DDG) of the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) for further development under the Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP) of the NCI/National Institutes of Health.
The compound was developed by Dr. Stephen Safe, of Texas A&M University and is in-licensed by Avax Technologies, Inc., through an agreement with the university.
As was published in Cancer Research on May 15, 2001, in an animal model, 6-MCDF, in combination with tamoxifen, synergistically inhibits mammary tumor growth and also blocks the uterotropic effects of tamoxifen. Thus, combination therapy with 6-MCDF plus tamoxifen may lower the ...
