People in Atlanta, Georgia, have good reason to be proud of their city. Atlanta was chosen over several other cities in the world to host the 1996 Summer Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) carefully studied each city that wanted to host the Olympics. After months of consideration, the IOC picked Atlanta.
Why Atlanta?
The IOC felt Atlanta would be a good place to hold the Olympics for many reasons, including Atlanta's transportation system. Any city that hosts the Olympics must be able to move people coming from all over the world into and out of the city. An Olympic host city must also be able to transport large numbers of people to Olympic events ...
