The Pacific Northwest is famous for its rain, forests, and mountains. But this region of the United States has a variety of climates and land formations.

Much of the southeastern part of Oregon is desert or near desert The Willamette Lowland in Oregon has rich soil and just enough rain for crops to grow well.

Land Areas

COAST RANGE: the lowest of Oregon's mountain ranges; mostly covered with forests.

WILLAMETTE LOWLAND: the Willamette River and its branches run through the area; home to more than half the state's people

CASCADE MOUNTAINS: rugged mountains, including some of the highest peaks in North America

KLAMATH MOUNTAINS: thick forests cover the mountains
