A Town Faces Change
In Connecticut, which is located in the New England region, towns and cities are changing with the times. But people in some communities aren't sure how fast change should come.
Waterford, Connecticut, is a town that must decide how to handle change. The Barrett Farm, an old farm in town, recently went on sale for $3 million. The town wants to buy it. But some town residents don't like that idea.
The farm is 120 acres. It borders an interstate highway. The town could use the land in several ways. But buying and using the farm would change Waterford. Townspeople are debating whether buying the land is a good idea.
Growth Is Good And Bad
As towns grow, their residents must live with change. A town government may favor growth because it brings more money into town. But some residents may oppose growth because it can cause more traffic or more crime. Growth also changes a town's character, or what makes the town unique.
