Who Needs Contraception?
* 60 million U.S. women are in their childbearing years (15-44).
* 15% of these women are aged 15-19, 15% are 20-24, 34% are 25-34 and 36% are 35-44.
* 30 million are married (49%), 23 million have never been married (38%) and 8 million (13%) are separated, divorced or widowed.
* 1 in 6 of these women have a household income below 150% of the federal poverty level. (In 1995, the poverty level was $15,569 for a family of four.)
* 42 million, or 7 in 10 women of reproductive age, are sexually active and do not want to become pregnant, but could do so if they or their partner fail to use a contraceptive method.
* A woman who wants only two children will need to practice contraception for at least 20 years of her life.
