But it's not easy. Behrman has pinched the tip of my tongue between two gloved fingers and is pulling it gently but firmly forward. She's also shoving a camera the size of an electric toothbrush toward the back of my throat. "Are you kidding me?" I say, but what comes out is "Awuh kigiwuh?"
Behrman shows no impatience -- mine is probably the tenth tongue she's grabbed today. "Relax and try that note." I take a breath and produce a tenor-range F that sounds like the cry of a terrified hen. "That's great. Can you sustain it longer this time?" I squawk ...
