SAN JOSE_He sat in the far corner of Sharks dressing room Saturday, struggling to breathe and his face redder than Rudolph's nose.
"I made it," Mike Rathje said.
That was about all he could say. Rathje labored through his first full practice since agreeing to a four-year, $8.25 million contract Thursday, and it left him gassed. The conditioning he'd undergone with a personal trainer while holding out for the season's first 10 weeks? Well, it didn't quite live up to its billing.
"After that skate, I'd gauge my conditioning as not very good," he said. "At least, it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. But it's just the first day."
