U.S. has few complaints about World Cup draw.(Knight Ridder Newspapers)
At least they didn't get the Group of Death.
The United States and Mexico walked away from the 2002 World Cup draw Saturday relieved despite getting big-name first-round opponents. The teams know it could have been worse. Much worse.
"We can't complain too much," U.S. captain Claudio Reyna said from Scotland, where he plays for the Glasgow Rangers.
The teams that could complain were found in Group F. Argentina, the favorite, England, Sweden and Nigeria all have strong World Cup traditions. But only two from each of the eight groups will advance to the second round of soccer's championships, starting May 31 in South Korea and Japan.
