CHAPEL HILL, N.C. _ North Carolina State fell 10 points short of the Peach Bowl.
Minutes before kickoff of North Carolina's game Saturday against Southern Methodist, Peach president Gary Stokan said his bowl's bid would go to N.C. State if the Tar Heels lost.
The Tar Heels won, 19-10, leaving the Pack's bowl fate in the hands of the most unorthodox selection process out there.
According to Tangerine representative Tony Martin, only the Tangerine picks teams by a vote of its 100-plus committee members.
"It's a democracy," he said.
With at-large bids running out and the ACC's slots in the Peach (UNC), Gator (Florida State) and Seattle (Georgia Tech) full, N.C. State's best bowl shot is the Tangerine. But Clemson also covets the Tangerine, and Martin offered no predictions on the vote.
"Anything could happen," he said. "It'll be open season when we get together today at 2p.m."
