EAST LANSING, Mich. _ With a 55-7 pummeling of Missouri on Saturday, the Spartans halted a three-game losing streak and sent a message to the bowl officials watching the game. And that message would be: ``Oh, please let us in.''
The win over Missouri meant the Spartans eligible for a bowl bid. What bowl invitation they will get will be known sometime on Sunday. Penn State's 20-14 loss to Virginia gave the Spartans one less Big Ten team to compete with for a bowl spot.
An invite could come from the Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose, Calif., pitting the Spartans against explosive Fresno State. The Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, is not out of the picture, but the Silicon Valley Classic appears to be the most favorable scenario since the men's basketball team plays Stanford on Dec. 29, two days before the bowl game.
