DALLAS _ Texans give President Bush and the war effort a thumbs-up in the latest Texas Poll, and they back expanding the war to other countries that harbor terrorists.
The poll also found strong support _ 93 percent of Texans _ for tightening restrictions on visas for foreign students and other visitors.
While a majority of Texans support giving government greater authority to fight terrorism, they also are more reluctant than two months ago to give up their civil liberties.
According to the survey taken by the Scripps Howard Data Center, 56 percent said they are now willing to give up civil liberties, compared with 74 percent in September shortly after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
