We knew big bucks are to be made in racing, but did we know how much? This just in: The four World Series games played in Phoenix generated an estimated $88 million in local revenue. Now that's good money. But Wait: Two Phoenix NASCAR races annually generate $120 million. Now that's great money.

That hat's worth more than what some drivers make in a year
People at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway held an auction of Formula One items. Some 22 pieces went on the virtual block. Total take: $187,356 that will benefit children of the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack. The item with the highest bid was the helmet worn by Michael Schumacher during the United States Grand Prix. It went for a paltry $55,200.
