Ascential Software Corp. announced Wednesday it has acquired Torrent Systems Inc. for $46 million in cash. Westboro, Mass.-based Ascential, known as Informix Corp. until IBM Corp. purchased the company's database assets for $1 billion earlier this year, said the acquisition of Cambridge, Mass.-based Torrent will enable it to improve its software performance.
