2001 DEC 5 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Biomira, Inc. (BIOM) announced that its subsidiary, Biomira USA, Inc., was issued a second patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for composition of matter used in Biomira's cancer vaccine program.
The issued patent, number 6,312,718, is entitled "Vaccine for B-cell Malignancies" and is pending worldwide.
The patent describes a new liposomal vaccine, which includes a purified or synthetic B-cell malignancy antigen and cytokines. A prototype vaccine was manufactured by Biomira and tested at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) by Dr. Larry Kwak in patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The vaccine was prepared for each patient using individual B-cell lymphoma antigens.
