Overview

Get Smart About Drugs, Grades 4--6 builds on the skills teamed in grades 2-3 and introduces new skills such as dealing with stress and setting goals. The purpose of this book is to help students recognize and avoid unhealthy situations involving drugs, such as misuse of medicines, tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs. Students practice decision-making and effective communication skills in scenarios involving the misuse of legal and illegal drugs, and resisting negative peer pressure in drug-related situations.

Student Objectives

Students will:

* learn the distinction between appropriate and inappropriate uses of medicine;

* discuss why medicines are never to be taken unless prescribed by a physician and given by a trusted adult;
