Colchester, April 6--A local middle-school student was hospitalized yesterday evening after police were called in response to a disturbance at Eddie's Video Arcade.
According to Sgt. Lucas of the Colchester Police Force, police arrived at the scene at 7:12 p.m. and found six youths, ages 11 to 13, in the parking lot of the Arcade. "One girl was screaming and tearing at her skin and clothes," said Sgt. Lucas. "We questioned her friends, and it appears that she had taken some sort of hallucinogen." A hallucinogen is a drug that interrupts some functions of the brain. The user can imagine things that are not there. LSD PCP (also called "angel dust"), and "magic mushrooms" are different types of hallucinogens.
The girl kept screaming that her clothes and skin were on fire, according to police reports. An ambulance was called, and she was brought to the hospital. Doctors say she is now out of danger. An investigation is under way to find out where the girl got the drug.
