Brandy and her family were eating in a fast-food restaurant. Just as they started to eat, a man at the table next to theirs lit a cigarette. Her father frowned. Then, he turned toward the man and politely said, "Excuse me. Would you mind smoking that in another place or waiting until we are done eating? The smoke from your cigarette really bothers me and my family."
"Ah, sure," said the man. And he took the cigarette from his mouth and put it out in the ashtray on his table. Brandy's father turned back toward her and her family.
"Dad, why did you ask that man to put out his cigarette?" Brandy asked.
"Breathing in smoke from another person's cigarette isn't good for you. Smoke from another person's lighted cigarette is called secondhand smoke. It can be just as bad for you as if you smoked the cigarette yourself. It may even be worse."
"Really? What can it do to you if you breathe it in?" Brandy asked.
"Well, ...
