Jolie had three of her friends over to her house after school. They all went upstairs into Jolie's room to play. One of her friends, Sarah, took a cigarette out of her coat pocket.
"Hey, look at this. Let's smoke it. Here, Jolie," Sarah said as she handed Jolie the cigarette. "You go first."
"I don't think so, Sarah. Cigarettes are nasty. Smoking is bad for you."
"Cigarettes can hurt your lungs and make it hard for you to breathe. Cigarettes have tobacco in them. Tobacco has a drug in it called nicotine (NIK-a-teen). Nicotine makes people want to smoke more and more."
"What's so bad about it?" asked Sarah.
"Cigarettes make you cough, too," added Nicki. "My uncle smokes cigarettes, and he is always coughing. My aunt told me it was from all the cigarette smoke."
"But I've seen some older kids smoke. And they never cough," said Sarah.
