Legislation has been introduced in the U.S. House and the Senate and a number or states (and actually has already been enacted in the State of Maryland) to mandate that insurance plans cover reversible medical contraceptives to the same extent that other prescription drugs and supplies are covered. This would not only improve access, but would also allow for more even-handed provision of contraceptive methods, giving women more balanced selection of the method most appropriate to their particular preferences and needs, independent of its cost.
