A joint R & D team drawn from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Hitachi's Central Research Laboratory, has developed a technology enabling a fast identification of sources of greenhouse gases both natural, and manufactured.

The technology can specify if a greenhouse gas under investigation, such as carbon dioxide, is released from the soil from the actions of microbes or plants, or is generated by the burning of fossil fuels.
