New fuel cell hydrogen power source.(Kogakuin University)(Brief Article)
An R & D team based at Kogakuin University has developed a new fuel which it is said provides hydrogen to fuel cells in a simpler more effective way than is the case with existing counterparts. A metal catalyst is used to set off the release of hydrogen.
The fuel is an alkaline solution of borohydride, a chemical compound that contains both boron and hydrogen. The compound is readily obtained from borax, a cheap natural resource substance. The fuel is a clear liquid that can be transported with complete safety through plastic piping and stored in plastic canisters, or larger containers.
