Emap's broadcast sales director, Dave King, has won the race to become the new managing director of Emap Advertising.
King is believed to have been picked from a shortlist of three, including the former Associated Newspapers stalwart Simon Barnes, to replace Tom Toumazis, who quit last month. He will report to the Emap Advertising board, chaired by Emap Performance's chief executive, Tim Schoonmaker.
"We've spent the past six weeks in a very rigorous process talking to people from inside and outside of Emap," Schoonmaker said. "There's no doubt that David is the best person. In the past two years he's executed an innovative strategy that has changed radio advertising, particularly the way we trade and handle customer service."
King quit as broadcast director at Carat to join Emap On Air as sales director in August 1999. He was appointed director of broadcast in May 2000 before being unexpectedly handed control of online sales later the same month.
