The trickle of tourist arrivals in the country has taken its toll among the hotels situated in Metro Manila as occupancy rates are on a downtrend.

In particular, overall occupancy rates for the January to August period fell to 56.79% from a previous 58.96%, latest data from the Department of Tourism (DoT) show. However, the average length of stay of guest was longer at 2.80 nights, slightly higher than the 2.71 nights reported the same period last year.

Mainly affected by the drop in occupancy rates of deluxe hotels, the overall occupancy of hotels accredited by the DoT was saved by gains registered in the first, standard and economy classes.
