2001 NOV 14 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Genmab A/S has announced that HuMax-IL15, a human monoclonal antibody targeting the cytokine interleukin (IL)-15, demonstrated potent activity in arresting inflammation in preclinical studies.
HuMax-IL15 was shown effective in neutralizing IL-15 activity in various cellular models, as well as in mice engrafted with inflammatory tissue from rheumatoid arthritis patients. For example, HuMax-IL15 inhibits T-cell proliferation and the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha, both of which play integral roles in inflammatory disorders.
These data were presented September 29, 2001, at the VIII European Pediatrical Rheumatology Congress by Jan G.J. van de Winkel, PhD, Genmab, and professor of immunology, Utrecht University.
IL-15 is an important disease target because it is an immune system signaling molecule that appears early in the cascade of events that ultimately lead to inflammatory disease. IL-15 induces both the production of TNF-alpha, another cytokine that has been shown to play a pivotal role in ...
