Medan, Nov 7 (ANTARA) - Indonesian women and children have been smuggled to Singapore and Malaysia, a senior police officer says.
"Most of the women are employed by syndicates in the two neighboring countries as sex workers," said Dr Irma Alamsyah Djaya Putra MSc, expert staff to the Women Empowerment Minister, in her address at a seminar entitled "Caucus of North Sumatran women in saving women and children from trafficking syndicates" here on Wednesday.
Quoting last year's data from Malaysia, Irma said that around 4,268 Indonesian women netted in an operation were employed as sex workers in that country (Malaysia).
