Even the best boyfriends can have bad cologne habits. Take our advice and he'll be sporting an aroma that makes you weak-kneed in no time.
So you're madly attracted to your man, but when you lean in close, something's amiss: His scent doesn't drive you crazy. This may seem like a minor bump on the road to romantic bliss, but experts say it can put the brakes on a blooming relationship. "Smell is one of the first things a woman notices about a guy, and it can have a strong effect on her feelings for him," says Avery Gilbert, Ph.D., president of the Sense of Smell Institute. Since women are so swayed by aromas, you must fix this fragrance foible to keep it from dampening your desire for your guy. Read on to learn strategies for fixing the four most common boyfriend scent blunders.
SCENT SNAFU 1
you fin his cologne repellent
Solution: "Our sense of smell is so powerful that it can provoke an immediate feeling of repulsion," says Gilbert. So it won't really matter if he's the hottest boy you've ever laid eyes on and even has an irresistibly sexy phone voice--if your otherwise-Mr.-Right's signature smell is grossing you out, you need to take measures so you can nuzzle without nausea. You might bruise his ego if you tell him flat out that you think he stinks, so handle it delicately. Rather than dissing his current scent, try to switch him to one you adore. You can be coy and tuck a sample of your preferred fragrance in his gym bag or briefcase with a label reading "Warning: Causes immediate arousal." Or be more direct and hand him a trial size of your favorite and say "I think this is so sexy, I'm dying to see how it smells on you." Positive reinforcement is key to getting him to make the swap permanent, so once he's wearing your suggested scent, lavish him with lusty compliments every chance you get.
But if you know that he's picky and this transition might not be a simple task, do your homework. Research the ingredients in his current cologne and spontaneously gift him with a new one that's in the same fragrance family. Let your babe know it's a hot new find you just knew he'd love since it's a fresh interpretation of the "eau de classic" he's always worn. Once he tries it, display lots of interest in him and all of his usual perfume pulse points and he'll never go near his old scent again.
