2001 NOV 8 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Medical research study results for the first vaginal ring to provide long-term estrogen treatment for menopause symptoms, including both systemic symptoms of hot flashes and night sweats, and local urogenital symptoms, such as vaginal dryness and painful intercourse, were presented at the annual meeting of The North American Menopause Society, October 5, 2001.
David F. Archer, MD, director of the Clinical Research Center at Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine, Eastern Virginia Medical School, conducted and described the results of the clinical research.
Archer said many menopausal patients suffer from both vasomotor symptoms of hot flashes and local urogenital symptoms, but often the local urogenital symptoms are not discussed with their physicians.
Until now, intravaginal estrogen preparations that treated local urogenital symptoms were unable to deliver adequate systemic amounts of estrogen to effectively treat vasomotor symptoms. Archer said, "this vaginal ring appears to successfully treat both the hot flashes and night sweats and the ...
