The city of Houston has approved a five-year contract with Naperville, Ill.-based Ondeo Nalco Co. to supply a chemical used in sludge treatment by the Public Works and Engineering Department.
Houston City Council has agreed to pay $10.8 million for "chemical liquid polymer flocculent" used in removing water from sludge solids produced during the wastewater treatment process.
City documents indicate the cost-per-pound on the new contract has decreased about 32 percent compared to the price-per-pound on the current contract.
A German chemical company, Stockhausen Inc., previously held a separate $10 million contract with the city for this job.
