Robert K. Brown has no patience for pantywaist questions about the war on terrorism. "Let's hunt 'em down and kill 'em," he wrote recently on the Web site of Soldier of Fortune, the American flag-waving, pro- military, pro-gun magazine he founded 26 years ago. Since Sept. 11, Soldier of Fortune has become as hot as the barrel of a blazing machine gun. Retail chains that previously snubbed their noses at the magazine's commando fervor are suddenly calling. Advance orders for the January issue have jumped to 150,000, compared with 107,000 before the terrorist attacks, and SOF has also added 500 new mail subscribers.
