The police joined the war before the soldiers. So did the narcs. And the spies. Afghanistan may be a new battlefield to American troops, but it is only one front in the struggle against globalized terror. The war was going on long before the suicide attacks of Sept. 11, and will endure long after the last bomb is dropped on Kandahar.
