This month breastlink.org reviews four scientific studies:
* Scientists Discover How Breast Cancer Spreads: Researchers have uncovered a biological mechanism involved in the spread of breast cancer. They believe the discovery may one day lead to methods that will help prevent metastasis. Expert commentary is provided by Kim Blackwell, MD, Duke University Comprehensive Cancer Center, Durham, NC.
* Adjuvant Therapy May Benefit Patients with Small Tumors and Negative Lymph Nodes: Researchers with the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) analyzed data from five NSABP trials and concluded that women with estrogen receptor-negative or estrogen receptor-positive tumors of one centimeter or less and negative axillary lymph nodes may benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy and/or tamoxifen. Expert commentary is provided by I. Craig Henderson, MD, University of California, San Francisco.
