Dealer success: the right mix

This independent Indiana dealer knows that a complete stock, professional service and hard work are the ingredients for success.

When Greg "Towny" Townsend opened his two-bay service station and tire center in 1972, he had tires stacked clear to the ceiling.

"We sometimes had to move 300 to 400 tires out in the morning just so we could start business," says Townsend. Today, Townsend's Tire Service in Decatur, IN, has eight bays and a 40-by-50-foot warehouse that stores 5,000 passenger tires. "But we still don't have enough room," he jokingly adds.

For Townsend, who has expanded his store several times and does more than $1 million in business annually, a combination of factors work together to create success.
