Drs. Marvin Cohen and Susanne Southworth don't think their product Will replace Listerine.
But the father-daughter team at Triumph Pharmaceuticals Inc. already is selling hundreds of thousands of units of their TriOral mouthwash, a product they claim eliminates bad breath for 12 hours after each rinse.
"We're already making little inroads," said Cohen, 70, chairman and founder of the business.
Triumph sells Its mouthwash through dentists and pharmacies. The next step for the Olivette company, which has 10 employees, is to reach mass retailers, Cohen said.
His daughter Susanne, 43, the president and chief executive, said within the next year TriOral will move into retail distribution.
Cohen's conversion from a halitosis researcher to a mouthwash entrepreneur started four years ago when he was working on bad-breath remedies. He had spent much of his dental career trying to find solutions and lecturing on the subject.
"I had patients who had bad breath, and I knew there was little I could do about it," he said.
