2001 OCT 18 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (RPI) announced September 25, 2001, the start of the third clinical trial of the antiangiogenic drug Angiozyme in cancer patients.
The current study will evaluate Angiozyme as a treatment for cancer patients who are currently taking carboplatin and paclitaxel therapy. The first Phase II trial with Angiozyme began in February of 2001 in patients with metastatic breast cancer and a second Phase II trial in colorectal cancer began in June 2001.
The safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of Angiozyme will be assessed in patients enrolled in the study at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Vanderbilt University. Eligible patients will receive Angiozyme along with a standard combination chemotherapy regimen of carboplatin and paclitaxel.
