2001 OCT 17 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- AVANT Immunotherapeutics Inc. (AVAN) has received a U.S. patent covering DNA immunogenic compositions for modulating endogenous cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP). The company also signed an agreement with the Immune Response Corp. (IMNR) to acquire a portfolio of granted and pending patents covering products or methods for stimulating an immune response against CETP.
AVANT's cholesterol management agent, CETi-1, is designed to raise serum HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol levels by blocking the transfer of cholesterol from HDL to LDL (low-density lipoprotein). CETi-1 induces antibodies against a portion of CETP, the serum protein responsible for this transfer. ...
