Dear readers,

While in ordinary times the current market slowdown would be the dominant news theme, these days the consequences of De Beers' new market strategy continue to make the largest waves, and tend to color much about which we write.

As it is, from an official standpoint at least, the so-called Supplier of Choice strategy has yet to be launched. And, indeed, as we report in an article starting on page 16, following the decision in July by the European Commission to object to certain proposals in the program, its actual introduction could be put off for several months at least.
