The online recruiting service HotJobs has chosen downtown Washington for its newest operations center, which will focus on technology employment in the mid-Atlantic region.

New York-based HotJobs, which is awaiting federal approval for a pending $500 million merger with its No. 1 competitor, Monster.com, is setting up its regional office at 1420 K St. NW.

The office will serve employers and job seekers in the District, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and North Carolina.

"We plan to be growing this office very aggressively," says Rebecca Abizaid, sales manager for HotJobs' D.C. office, which has a staff of 12.
