Oxagen Ltd., a privately held genomics company based in Abingdon, U.K., and Cerylid Biosciences Ltd., a genomics-driven drug discovery company based in Melbourne, Australia, have agreed to collaborate to investigate the genetics of endometriosis. Oxagen and Cerylid are already conducting separate extensive, family-based genetic studies on endometriosis with leading academic groups.
The new collaborative research program is believed to be the world's largest genetic study in this debilitating disease, and will include more than 2,000 families affected with endometriosis. The goal of the collaboration is to discover genes and polymorphisms that influence susceptibility to endometriosis, and deliver targets from which new diagnostics and treatments for the disease can be developed.
