Biomira USA, a subsidiary of Biomira Inc., has initiated a Phase Ib clinical trial to test safety and immunogenicity of an autologous vaccine strategy for the treatment of B-cell lymphoma. This program, carried out under a Collaborative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI), is the second step in the investigation of an autologous vaccine strategy based on a liposomal formulation.
In the first step, carried out at NCI under the direction of Dr. Larry Kwak, the study showed that a highly purified patient-specific cancer antigen could be produced and formulated by a patented process into a liposomal formulation that also contains the potent immune enhancer, interleukin-2.
