Epimmune Inc., presenting at the AIDS Vaccine 2001 Conference held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, September 7, 2001, provided additional information on its HIV vaccine program including its initial vaccine candidate and clinical trial plans.
Epimmune anticipates that it will file an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for its initial vaccine candidate, a therapeutic HIV vaccine, in the first quarter of 2002. Clinical trials could begin approximately one month later, pending FDA review. They stated that a pre-IND meeting was previously held in August 2001 with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) staff and representatives of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), Division of AIDS, a program sponsor.
The initial clinical trials, which are supported by an NIH grant, will be conducted at the University of Colorado Health Services Center under the direction of Constance Benson, MD and Cara Wilson, MD, and will involve approximately 40 infected ...
