Shop owners look for ways to stimulate sales

D/FW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT -- Retail and restaurant operators at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport have weathered airline strikes, airport construction and other short-term challenges.

Now, the small but determined group is settling in for a long fight: finding ways to drive sales as increased security and a decline in scheduled flights in the aftermath of terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.., spells fewer customers.

A bright spot in the predicament is that passengers who arrive at the airport earlier because of new security requirements will have more time to eat and shop. …
