Statewide shaken baby syndrome conference slated for October.

An estimated 2,500 -- 3,000 children suffer injury or die each year from intentional head injury, a condition commonly referred to as "shaken baby syndrome." National research has revealed that shaken baby syndrome is the leading cause of death in child abuse cases, claiming the life of one out of every four victims. In fact, up to 50 percent of all Americans are unaware that shaking a baby is a crime and can cause serious injuries such as developmental delays, blindness, spinal cord and brain damage.

As a means to educate and mobilize communities in dealing with this serious issue, a statewide conference has been scheduled for Thur., Oct. 18, 2001, at the Hyatt …
