Cell Genesys Promotes Joseph Vallner To President.(Brief Article)

Cell Genesys Inc. (CEGE) has promoted Joseph J. Vallner, PhD, to President from the position of Executive Vice President. Dr. Vallner will continue to serve as chief operating officer and work closely with Stephen A. Sherwin, MD, who will continue as chairman and chief executive officer of Cell Genesys.
"I have never been more optimistic about Cell Genesys' future, and am very pleased to have Joe take on the role of president at this exciting time in our history - a time when Cell Genesys has the combined strength of multiple late-stage product opportunities and the financial resources necessary to advance these products toward commercialization," stated Stephen A. Sherwin, MD, chairman and chief executive officer of Cell Genesys. "In the time that Joe has been with Cell Genesys, he has proven to be an extremely valuable addition to our management team. This promotion recognizes his many contributions to the continued evolution of our business, particularly with respect to the organizational development necessary for the advancement of our products to phase III trials beginning in late 2002, and thereafter to market."
