Tuffy Rhodes' pursuit of history goes on.
The Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes outfielder was held homerless on Monday in the Buffaloes' 4-3 win over the Orix BlueWave at Osaka Dome.
Rhodes, who needs one home run to break Sadaharu Oh's single-season home run record of 55, went 1-for-4 with a single as his teammates erupted for four runs in the first inning against the BlueWave in the Buffaloes' final home game of the regular season.
Rhodes, batting at the top of manager Masataka Nashida's lineup in order to get an extra at-bat or two in his historic chase, flied out to right to lead off the first.
Daisuke Masuda followed with an infield single and Fumitoshi Takano walked to bring the Buffaloes other big bopper, Norihiro Nakamura to the plate. And Nakamura didn't disappoint.
The Buffaloes captain launched a three-run homer into the left-field stands, for his 46th long distance call of the season.
And before the crowd could sit down again, Kenji Kawaguchi connected for his 20th homer, a solo shot to right.
